High-end car configurator and product visualizer for smart
during my internship @ demodern
I had the chance to work on a large project for the smart car brand as a UX designer @demordern. In the context of the relaunch of smart.com, demodern was given the task to let website visitors digitally experience the electric car. By leveraging 3D visuals via WebGL technology, users can intuitively interact and configure all equipment and car options available.

Clear and reduced interface
Productivity and ease of use are top priorities for any configurator. By putting the product in the spotlight, we enabled a reduced, meaningful user interface that creates space for exploring options and getting inspired. Familiar interaction concepts such as card-swipe for mobile devices, step-by-step navigation, and hotspots also facilitate user configuration. Based on usability testing, this concept was optimised with early prototypes, and continuously validated in each product increase cycle. (demodern)
Wireframes
Together with my colleague from the UX team, I created variations for the navigation, the interactions and responsive design. Both for the website and for the configurator.
We tested the concepts in click prototypes and evaluated them in various criteria.

Prototypes
We explored the behavior of hotspots using prototypes.
Working method scrum
We worked in iterations oriented on the process model Scrum.
Typical activitiesare: Recording of new user stories, features and epics in the backlog, refinement of existing epics, features and user stories and if necessary division into several small backlog items, summarizing User stories, assumptions and restrictions, Identification of dependencies, correction of cost estimates based on new Findings and changes in Prioritization based on new knowledge. A project is divided into sprints, every two weeks we made a new one Sprint plan "Kickoff".

I gained a lot of knowledge from the method and have continued to use it ever since.
Testing
After a milestone, the goal was to test the configurator on usabillity with real users. We have carried out a professional test for this. An external person tested the prototype for us with various test subjects and we observed and analyzed what happened via video transmission and recorded findings. I cut a small video for the steakholder to clearly show important discoveries and results.
